Thomas Sobotzik ((ポーランド語:Tomasz Sobocki); born October 16, 1974 in Gliwice) is a German footballer from Polish part of Silesia, who currently plays for 1. FC Oberstedten.
== Career ==
Thomas Sobotzik was born in 1974 in Gliwice (German: Gleiwitz) and began six years old playing football in the youth of Piast Gliwice. When he was nine, he moved to the youth of Górnik Zabrze. His parents had tried for years to emigrate to Germany, because there lived the rest of his family. 1987 or 1988 emigrated with his parents from Thomas Sobotzik as emigrants to Germany and lived first in an emergency quarters in Frankfurt. At first, he did not speak German, so he took an intensive language course; after only six months, he came to the Helmholtz school (Gymnasium in Frankfurt am Main).〔 In Frankfurt, he joined the youth of Eintracht Frankfurt and was active for the U-15 team of the club.〔 After a youth tournament in Aalen, he received an offer from VfB Stuttgart and after the club manager of the Swabians, Thomas Sobotziks parents worried a three-room flat in Sindelfingen just in the outskirts of Stuttgart, and his father a job at Daimler-Benz AG,〔 Thomas Sobotzik accepted the offer of VfB Stuttgart. With the youth of Stuttgart Sobotzik was twice German youth champion. In 1990 he returned to the youth of Eintracht Frankfurt. At the age of 17 he signed at professional contract. Due to a heavy knee injury he had to pause a long time in 1991.
With 20 years he finally debuted in the Bundesliga. After two seasons at FC St. Pauli a short stint at Kaiserslautern he returned both times to Eintracht. In 2001 Lothar Matthäus signed him for Rapid Wien. Via Union Berlin he came to SpVgg Unterhaching in 2004 where he captained the side in his last season at the Bavarian club.〔(Einmal Unioner, immer Unioner! - Thomas Sobotzik )〕
Thomas Sobotzik appeared in 134 Bundesliga matches (19 goals) und in 110 2nd Bundesliga fixtures (17 goals).
In 2007 he moved to Norwegian side Sandefjord Fotball. Sobotzik signed a one-year contract and moved to German Regionalliga team FSV Frankfurt in January 2008. After eighteen months was released from FSV Frankfurt and joined in summer 2009 to 1. FC Oberstedten.〔(Einmal Unioner, immer Unioner! )〕
